Michael J. Setter

Mike is a partner of the firm and is a registered patent attorney with over ten years of patent experience and has prosecuted over 300 patents in various high-tech fields. Mike is technically proficient in the areas of communications, computer systems, software, optics, integrated circuitry, and electronics. He handles various intellectual property matters including patent prosecution, strategic IP planning, patent analysis and opinions, technology agreements, and patent litigation support.

Mike has broad patent experience including the following technologies:

  • Communication systems including network architectures, switches, routers, call processors, enhanced service platforms, test systems, security systems, and billing platforms
  • Wireless systems including network architectures, base stations, antennas, performance measurement systems, and mobile communication units
  • Optical systems including lasers, amplifiers, switches, and network architectures
  • Integrated circuitry including microprocessors, I/O controllers, SAR chips, packet processors, and switch matrix chips
  • Computer systems and software including super-computers and distributed platforms
  • Video delivery systems including cable TV and video-on-demand systems
  • Data storage systems including magnetic and optical drives

Mike was formerly a partner at the law firm of Faegre & Benson and co-chair of the Intellectual Property Section of the Boulder County Bar Association. He also worked as a patent attorney for Sprint Corporation. Prior to his legal career, Mike spent five years as an electrical engineer for Black & Veatch. Mike received his Juris Doctorate with honors from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He received his Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri.
