Kyle J. Way

Kyle is a partner at the firm and is a registered patent attorney with nearly a decade of patent law experience. Kyle began his legal career as a patent agent with Hewlett-Packard Company, and later Agilent Technologies Incorporated. Kyle continued his career as a patent attorney with Agilent, and later at the Denver office of Dorsey & Whitney LLP, a large general practice law firm based in Minneapolis. Kyle received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Denver College of Law.

Prior to his legal career, Kyle worked 15 years as an electrical engineer in the data storage industry in Colorado. Kyle began his engineering career at Storage Technology Corporation in 1984, designing digital hardware for controllers of medium- and large-format magnetic disk drives. Later, at Pentax Technologies Corporation, Kyle designed microprocessor-based digital hardware and firmware for write-once and rewritable optical disk drives, document scanners, and test fixtures for various development projects. Kyle completed his engineering career at Hewlett-Packard Company as a research and development engineer, working on controller firmware for a DVD+RW rewritable disk drive.

Kyle has broad patent preparation and prosecution experience in several technologies, including:

  • Electronics hardware and firmware for digital data storage products, such as CD and DVD drives, and magnetic tape drives media
  • Electronics hardware for test and measurement systems, such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and integrated circuit editing tools
  • Integrated circuit design and process
  • Mechanical and electronic hardware design for x-ray inspection systems
  • Electronics system modeling, fault detection and analysis software
  • Mechanical designs covering a variety of technology areas, including electronics connector hardware, exercise equipment, oral hygiene products, and pet toys

Prior to his engineering career, Kyle received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in 1984, and a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1987, both with honors from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
