Dave Schaumann is an of-counsel attorney at Setter Roche Smith & Shellenberger LLP. Dave’s practice includes patent drafting and prosecution and Freedom-to-Operate analysis in a number of technology areas. He also leads technical investigations and counsels start-up clients and other entities with respect to corporate matters including tech transfer, employment and compensation issues, corporate formation, and compliance.

Dave joined the firm in 2017 after nearly a decade serving as in-house patent counsel at a major international medical device company. During his time there, he managed the intellectual property concerns for several medical technology areas These concerns included idea generation, patent drafting and prosecution, acquisition/purchase (of both patent portfolios and companies), enforcement, strategy, product clearance, risk management, budget management, and communication with management teams.

Prior to Dave’s time in-house, he worked with two major law firms in the Washington D.C. area, focused primarily on patent litigation, including participating in trial teams for several multi-million dollar patent trials.
