As a Partner at Setter Roche Smith & Shellenberger LLP in Denver, Colorado, Lana Kuchinski focuses her practice on patent prosecution, patent portfolio management, intellectual property strategy, and patent litigation support involving a diverse mix of technologies for clients of all sizes and industries, ranging from solo inventors to some of the largest companies in the world. She prosecutes patents for clients in the U.S. and abroad and provides patentability, patent validity, infringement, and freedom-to-operate counseling to facilitate her clients’ business goals. In addition, Ms. Kuchinski provides technical assistance on litigation matters and actions before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Ms. Kuchinski has broad experience prosecuting and counseling across a range of technology areas including:

•            Computer hardware and software related technologies;

•            Battery technologies such as solid-state batteries;

•            Mobile communications;

•            Semiconductor manufacturing;

•            Optics and opto-electronics;

•            Material science;

•            Chemical processing;

•            Energy derivation, including wellbore technologies and alternative energy generation; and

•            Tissue engineering and related medical products.

Ms. Kuchinski received her law degree from The University of Colorado, where she graduated Order of the Coif, and received her chemical engineering degree from The University of Kansas. Prior to attending law school, Ms. Kuchinski worked as a process controls engineer and process engineer for several years within the energy sector.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Ms. Kuchinski is recognized for her commitment to community service and mentorship. She has received accolades such as the Pro Bono Excellence Award and was nominated for the Pro Bono Attorneys of the Year award by the Colorado’s Lawyer Committee for work with the Rocky Mountain Immigration Advocacy Network (RMIAN) during her tenure as the Pass Program Lead at RMIAN where she aided detainees in their asylum process for several years. Additionally, Ms. Kuchinski mentored aspiring law students through the Women's Law Caucus and served as a Guest Lecturer for several years at the University of Kansas.
