Meggin is an award-winning attorney and leader in the legal field who is dedicated to improving the lives of families. She dedicates her practice to complex families, whether those complexities are financial or mental or physical health. Meggin has been recognized as a Super Lawyer from 2020-2026 and was awarded the 2020-2021 Colorado Bar Association Young Attorney of the Year award. Meggin is recognized for her work expanding the ability of families to find solutions out of court, for her dedication in providing education for the legal community, and for her work and activism with the Colorado Legislature to make out-of-court solutions more accessible to all Coloradans.
Meggin is a recognized expert in the state of Colorado regarding neurodiverse families in the legal system. Every year, she teaches hundreds judges, lawyers, and members of the legal profession about Autism, ADHD, learning differences, and other significant mental health issues that affect both children and families, along with collaborative law and complex financial issues in divorce. Neurodiverse families in Colorado frequently have issues of complex financials and compensation, which dovetails perfectly with her love of spreadsheets and creative financial solutions. As a mom of two neurodivergent children herself, she loves helping families find creative solutions to keep the children in the center of family and financial decisions and help everyone thrive.
Meggin has dedicated her career to serving families in the areas that they are most likely to need legal help: divorce, family law, elder law, and probate. She loves being able to sit down with families for estate planning or probate to help identify goals and work together to meet those goals. Meggin is dedicated to helping families find out-of-court ways to resolve their legal issues. She has helped families in divorce and probate with estates over 300 million dollars, and she has helped families living on minimum wage. Meggin is active in changing the legislation and judicial system to promote solutions-focused divorce resolutions by testifying to the Colorado Legislature and state Supreme Court committees about Collaborative Law and Divorce Options.
Complex assets and large spreadsheets are one of Meggin’s nerdiest pleasures. She specializes in helping families with complex assets including trusts, businesses, and complex income structures (including RSUs and executive compensation). Unlike most family law attorneys, Meggin really enjoys math and the puzzles of understanding complex assets and families. She uses that talent to help families find creative ways of equitable division of large estates. Meggin can usually come up with ideas that other professionals miss because of her deep understanding of the underlying structures and taxes of complex assets and families.
Meggin has been published in numerous magazines and websites, including the University of Colorado Amicus Magazine. She is the past President and current Vice President for Education of the Colorado Collaborative Divorce Professionals, among other organizations, to promote and expand solutions-focused resolution.
From Meggin Herself:
I decided to go into law instead of academics because I love to help people. I relish learning new things every day and then helping my clients understand how that impacts them. Most people face some kind of legal issue in their lives, and I want to help you understand your options and make the choice that is right for you. I have found a passion in helping people feel less stressed and more confident about what is going to happen as they move through the legal system. The best compliment I can hear after speaking with someone is “I feel so much better now”. I love working in a firm that provides compassionate and dedicated service to people in the areas that they are most likely to interact with the law: divorce, estate planning, elder law, and probate.
When I have free time, I enjoy playing with my children, reading, sewing, crafting, and playing with our wide variety of pets.
