Robert Bailey is a partner in the firm’s patent practice, where he focuses on developing, protecting, and strategically positioning high‑value innovations across complex technology sectors. He works closely with engineering teams, founders, and business leaders to build durable patent portfolios, evaluate competitive IP landscapes, and translate sophisticated technical concepts into clear, actionable legal strategy. Known for his analytical precision and collaborative approach, Robert brings both technical depth and practical judgment to clients navigating fast‑moving areas of innovation.

Previously at NetApp, Robert served as Senior IP Counsel, leading patent strategy for advanced software, cloud, and data‑management technologies. His work included identifying patentable inventions, shaping long‑term portfolio direction, managing global prosecution, and partnering with product and executive teams to align IP strategy with business goals. He also oversaw outside counsel, guided competitive analysis initiatives, and helped strengthen the company’s position in rapidly evolving technical domains.

Robert’s earlier experience includes significant roles at Perkins Coie LLP, where he managed large domestic and international patent portfolios and contributed to firmwide innovation efforts, including developing internal tools for patent analysis. He also practiced at Faegre & Benson and Setter Roche LLP, gaining broad experience in prosecution, portfolio development, litigation support, and client counseling. Across all of these roles, he has earned a reputation for clarity, mentorship, and the ability to bridge complex engineering concepts with effective legal advocacy.
